Kern County NASCAR Breaks Ground

The green flag has finally waved for the first time at Kern County’s New home To NASCAR!
An official ground-breaking ceremony was held at the construction site, Thursday, February 8th, to the cheers and laughter of 300 attendees. A first semi-official race was held between former Mesa Marin owner, Marion Collins, and Alan DeStefani, Mesa Marin’s first track champion in a pair of earth graders much to the delight of the crowd!  The ½ mile track is just off the intersection of Interstate 5 and CA State Hwy 43 and according to racer A.J. DeStefani grandson of the former track champion, it will be much faster than Mesa Marin and much more exiting for drivers and fans! The long awaited track opening will officially take place in the Spring of 2008, and The Iceman will be there with his #83 Chevy Monte Carlo all season long!
According to announcements made at the ceremony, all necessary permits have been approved and construction will move forward without further delays. Negotiations are taking place between the track’s leadership and NASCAR, and name for the track is being created for imminent release to the public. The Sunoco Racing League, a national racing touring series, has already signed a contract for a race at the new track in 2008.
